2016-2017 Service Year

We like to keep busy in our volunteer service to others! Here’s what we’ve been up to during the 2016-2017 service year!! (Our service year runs congruent to the school year, September to June.)

May 2017 – Dog Day in the Park

We were very excited about this special event at Ron Heck Memorial Park in Grenloch to benefit the Washington Twp Police Department’s K9 Unit! Our goal was to cover the cost of one new police canine (the unit is funded entirely on donations). It was a great day for our guests, our vendors AND our volunteers. We unveiled the doggy calendar winners, had a couple of local vets on hand to share important healthy pet tips, gave away some great raffle prizes and organized mini service projects designed to support local animal shelters.

February 2017 – Share Some Love

We had a great time with our volunteers at this event! We worked together to create Valentine’s Day cards and to fill warm socks with necessities like toothbrushes, toothpaste, etc. We created 206 cards and filled 81 pairs of socks. The socks and cards will be distributed to the homeless on the weekend before Valentine’s Day! Many thanks to the awesome volunteers (kids, moms and dads) and donors who made this project possible. We did an awesome job….as always!

December 2016 – 5th Annual Toy Drive Bingo

Founder Marcie Dewey’s all-time favorite CB Kids event! Our annual toy drive bingo collects toys in exchange for bingo cards. Donor kids get to play bingo for awesome prizes and then the collected toys are donated to Washington Township Family Services. We can usually count on Santa to stop by and call some numbers and area businesses get involved by donating prizes and/or providing extra fun stuff for the kids at the event.

November 2016 – Icing Thanksgiving Cookies

A terrific group of kids iced 400 cookies as a CB Kids service project!!! The cookies were paired with the utensil bundles our adult volunteers assembled at our Holiday Cards event. The utensils and cookies will accompany Thanksgiving meals as part of the Kathy MeGee Memorial Holiday Meals Program.

November 2016 – Holiday Cards for Our Military

What a great night we had for our service project! Our volunteer children made holiday cards for our military. Many thanks Amy Ledford Ettelson of Stamp with Amy for her time and guidance! The little ones had a blast making the cards, while the adults wrapped forks, spoons and knives in festive napkins for the Kathy MeGee Memorial Holiday Meals Program (these bundles will have a sweet treat added for the finishing touch)!
